MPS presents
a Hwansik Kim production

The Grand Master

The Grand Master is a skill assessment test taught to me by Hwansik Kim AKA The Professor, USPSA Grand Master and one of the best shooters and instructors in the World. The concept is simple, print the target bellow (depending on your level) and shoot it following the instructions. This skill assessment works for both Pistol and Rifle, as just the distances change. If you follow the instructions, this test will clearly show you which level or levels of confirmation you need to work on. No patches for this one, the reward is your own skill increase by gaining a better insight of the different confirmation levels. Remember, the objective is to get better at confirmations, run it clean is a bonus as few shooters can do it especially cold. I've added a video in the bottom of the page with detailed instructions on how to set, shoot and diagnose
The Grand Master.

PISTOL

At 5m/5.5 yards, already pointed at the target, shoot each circle with 4 sequences of doubles (total 8 shots) with the level of confirmation 1, 2 and 3. All splits (4 per circle) MUST be bellow or between the time allotted. If you shoot at least two circles clean (line breakers count), CONGRATULATIONS you have a Grand Master (GM) level of performance.

RIFLE

At 15m/16.4 yards, shoot each circle with 4 sequences of doubles (total 8 shots) with the level of confirmation 1, 2 and 3. All splits (4 per circle) MUST be bellow or between the time allotted. If you shoot at least two circles clean (line breakers count), CONGRATULATIONS you have a Grand Master (GM) level of performance.

To make this assessment accessible to ALL Shooters I created two versions:

GM Class

The GM Class Target is for  ALL shooters to test themselves.
The main difference compared to the Champion Target is that the shooter starts with the gun pointed at the target and each circle has a visual reference point. Rifle starts facing target.

CHAMPION

The Champion target is for the Elite shooter as it's shoot from draw only (meaning 3 individual draws) and there's no visual reference points. Rifle starts from low ready/ hunting position also meaning 3 individual draws. If all 24 shoots are inside the circles (line breakers count), CONGRATULATIONS you have a Champion level of performance!

Thanks for trying it out and I hope you have fun running this skill assessment drill.

Tag me @mps_performance_ and  The Professor Hwansik Kim @hkimshooting when shooting your runs. I certainly learned a lot from this drill and I'm sure you will as well.
